I am a diehard fan of the iPod classic. I’ve used it for hours on end for years. But I had the sneaking premonition that Apple would retool their inventory and abolish their first superstar item very soon.
Turns out I was right, and they did it much more ruthlessly than I expected.
Interesting move for Apple. Unless I am a total anomaly, they probably just infuriated a lot of customers. But that’s okay for them. Apple is at the point where they don’t bow to consumer tastes, they create it. Steve Jobs was famous for eschewing market research polls because he believed the consumer didn’t even know they wanted his creations. Well, I’m guessing Tim Cook had the same things in mind as the iPod classic was unilaterally pulled off the shelves.
I may need to encase my iPod classic now, in which case, time to get one before they’re gone!
